Η σύλληψη του Νορβηγού ακτιβιστή Tommy Olsen, σε εκτέλεση ευρωπαϊκού εντάλματος έκδοσης των δικαστικών αρχών της Κω, για φερόμενη συγκρότηση εγκληματικής οργάνωσης με σκοπό τη διευκόλυνση παράνομης εισόδου και διαμονής αλλοδαπών στη χώρα, αποτελεί την τελευταία πράξη δίωξης υπερασπιστών των δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου, που κατήγγειλαν τις εγκληματικές επαναπροωθήσεις που τελούνται στα Ελληνικά σύνορα.

Η Καμπάνια για την Πρόσβαση στο Άσυλο είχε καταγγείλει πριν 3 και πλέον χρόνια την δίωξη σε βάρος του Παναγιώτη Δημητρά, εκπροσώπου του Ελληνικού Παρατηρητηρίου των Συμφωνιών του Ελσίνκι, για την ίδια υπόθεση, για την οποία ο ακτιβιστής Tommy Olsen αντιμετωπίζει ήδη σύλληψη και έκδοση στην Ελλάδα.

Ήδη σήμερα, και αφού πλέον έχει αποδειχθεί, τόσο με αποφάσεις του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαστηρίου των Δικαιωμάτων του Ανθρώπου, όσο και με εκθέσεις ανεξάρτητων διεθνών και εθνικών φορέων προστασίας των δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου, ότι τελούνται συστηματικές επαναπροωθήσεις προσφύγων στα σύνορα της χώρας, κινείται η διαδικασία σύλληψης και έκδοσης στην Ελλάδα ενός από τους πλέον δραστήριους ακτιβιστές στον συγκεκριμένο χώρο, ο οποίος, από τη Νορβηγία, διατηρεί ακατάπαυστα, με προσωπικό κόπο και θυσίες για περισσότερο από 9 χρόνια, ανοικτή γραμμή επικοινωνίας με ανθρώπους σε κίνδυνο στο Αιγαίο. 

Μετά την πρόσφατη αθώωση όλων των μελών και εθελοντών της οργάνωσης ERCI από δικαστήριο της Μυτιλήνης, η δίωξη κατά του Tommy Olsen είναι η τελευταία ανοιχτή δίωξη σε βάρος υπερασπιστών των δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου, όσο και ακτιβιστών στην έρευνα και διάσωση στη θάλασσα.

Ως  οργανώσεις υπεράσπισης προσφύγων και μεταναστών όσο και γενικότερα υπεράσπισης των δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου, δεν μπορούμε παρά να απαιτήσουμε την παύση της δίωξης σε βάρος του Tommy Olsen και να επαναφέρουμε τα αιτήματα της τότε ανακοίνωσής μας, που δυστυχώς παραμένουν επίκαιρα και σήμερα: 

«Η Καμπάνια για την Πρόσβαση στο Άσυλο και οι  οργανώσεις που συνυπογράφουν την παρούσα ανακοίνωση ζητούν από τις αρχές της Ελλάδας και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης:

- Να σταματήσουν οι διώξεις όσων προσώπων και οργανώσεων λειτουργούν ως υπερασπιστές των δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου, ενάντια σε παραβιάσεις ακόμη και κρατικών αρχών και οργάνων.

- Να σταματήσει η συστηματική  παραπληροφόρηση σε βάρος προσώπων και οργανώσεων που παρέχουν προστασία σε αιτούντες άσυλο, πρόσφυγες και γενικότερα ευάλωτα πρόσωπα.

- Να προωθηθεί η διερεύνηση όσων καταγγελιών έχουν τεθεί υπόψη των αρμόδιων αρχών και αφορούν στην παράνομη πρακτική των επαναπροωθήσεων.

- Να σταματήσει το φαινόμενο παραβιάσεων των θεμελιωδών δικαιωμάτων του ανθρώπου που συστηματικά τελούνται στα σύνορα της Ελλάδας, όσο και της Ευρώπης.»

CEASE THE PROSECUTION AGAINST ACTIVIST TOMMY OLSEN 

The arrest of Norwegian activist Tommy Olsen, in execution of a European arrest warrant issued by the judicial authorities of Kos for the alleged formation of a criminal organization aimed at facilitating the illegal entry and residence of third country nationals in the country, constitutes the latest act of prosecution against human rights defenders who have denounced the crime of pushbacks taking place at the Greek borders.

More than three years ago, the “Campaign for the Access to Asylum” had denounced the prosecution against Panayote Dimitras, representative of the Greek Helsinki Monitor, for the same case in which activist Tommy Olsen is now facing arrest and extradition to Greece.

Today, and after it has already been proven, both by decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and by reports of independent international and national human rights protection bodies, that systematic pushbacks of refugees are carried out at the country's borders, proceedings have been initiated in Greece for the arrest and extradition of one of the most active in this field, who, from Norway, has unceasingly maintained, through personal effort and sacrifice for more than 9 years, an open line of communication with people at risk in the Aegean.

Following the recent acquittal of all members and volunteers of the ERCI organization by a court in Mytilene, the prosecution against Tommy Olsen is the last open prosecution against human rights defenders as well as search and rescue activists. 

As organizations dedicated to defending refugees and migrants as well as human rights, we can only demand the cessation of the prosecution against Tommy Olsen and reinstate the requests of our previous announcement, which unfortunately remain relevant to this day:

The “Campaign for the Access to Asylum” and the organizations co-signing this announcement request from Greek and EU authorities: 

⦁ Stop the prosecution of individuals and organizations operating as human rights defenders against rights violations, even those committed by state authorities and bodies.

⦁ Stop the systematic misinformation against individuals and organizations providing protection to asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable persons in general.

⦁ Promote the investigation of all complaints that have been brought to the attention of the competent authorities concerning the illegal practice of pushbacks.

⦁ Stop the systematic violations of fundamental human rights occurring at the borders of Greece and Europe.
